GRACE CONGRESS

“Sustainability as a Competitiveness Factor” is the motto of the 1st GRACE Congress, which aims to discuss sustainability as an essential driver of company competitiveness.

What tools can be used to help each organization reach its full potential, converting challenges into opportunities and becoming more prosperous?

This is a unique opportunity to hear from CEOs and managers of Portuguese companies who are committed to the sustainability principles in its various dimensions (ESG), as well as international experts.

This event targets middle and senior managers involved in the sustainability strategies of companies, business schools, and public opinion leaders with links to public sustainability policies, i.e. the primary recipients of the growing sustainability challenges and the increase in European regulatory requirements.

More than Green

Responsible Business. It’s your Business

“A unique opportunity to learn why no company can sustain long-term competitiveness if it disregards any of the three dimensions of the ESG acronym. You do not want to miss the ideas of those leading the sustainable transformation, the know-how of renowned experts, the experiences of those going through various stages of the journey, and the knowledge sharing with key players.”

ESG What? Come and find out the answers!

* Q&aA with the audience
At a time of crisis for the food system and the environment, as well as a skills revolution, sustainability is no longer just a corporate responsibility, it is a strategic imperative for the resilience and competitiveness of companies that want to be prepared for the future.
In a time of turmoil in the food sector, an environmental crisis, and a skills revolution, sustainability is no longer solely a corporate responsibility but a strategic imperative for resilience and companies’ competitiveness looking to be future-ready. The sustainability journey of Danone, a global company with a B-Corp certification, will be the focal point of the discussion on the significant risks and opportunities that companies face in the sustainable area, enabling them to better prepare for the future.
10h15 | Sustainability Champions, here & abroad
Panel
Cláudia Azevedo | CEO Sonae
Miguel Stilwell de Andrade | CEO EDP and EDPR
Carlos Mota Santos | CEO Mota-Engil
Rogério Campos Henriques | CEO Fidelidade
Moderator: Margarida Couto | President GRACE, representing VdA
As the challenges of sustainability are global, knowing what the leaders of companies with a vast international footprint think and act allows us to understand where the frontrunners are heading. In this panel, 4 CEOs of multinational companies of Portuguese origin will reveal how their sustainability strategies have contributed to their competitiveness agendas and discuss the reasons why the sector in which they operate also influences the steps of the journey.
11h30 | Coffee & Network
12h00 | Sustainable Finance or no Finance?
KEYNOTE SPEAKER | NUNO FERNANDES | Autor do livro Climate Finance, Membro do Conselho de Auditoria do Banco Europeu de Investimentos, Managing Partner da Odgers Berndtson Board Solutions, e Professor Catedrático no IESE Business School.
Leonor Ferreira | Markets Editor at Jornal de Negócios, in conversation with Nuno Fernandes

Q&A com a audiência

Climate change poses an undeniable risk to the economy, and the financial sector plays a vital role, considering the substantial funding required for transitioning to a sustainable economy. Financing will increasingly be directed towards companies committed to decarbonizing their operations, while those that fail to take action risk losing access to capital or facing higher costs, ultimately compromising their competitiveness.
13h00 |  Lunch Break
14h15 | The paradigm shift in Sustainability Reporting – from challenges to opportunities
KEYNOTE SPEAKER | Inês dos Santos Costa | Associate Partner and Head of Risk Advisory on Climate & Sustainability at Deloitte
With the "new ESG Reporting Directive", companies really have to prepare for a new reporting paradigm, in which sustainability statements – in the environmental, social and governance (ESG) areas – acquire an importance equivalent to financial statements in assessing a company’s performance. Europe is leading the way in terms of ambition, but it is not alone in designing reporting standards with unprecedented levels of demand.
14h45 | ESG Data – How easy is it to find?
Panel
Teresa Menezes | Managing Director Informa D&B
Carolina Cruz| CEO C-More
Moderator: Catarina Zagalo | Head of Communications & Market Relations DFK Portugal
While it’s true that with the new rules coming in, the landscape of sustainability reporting will never be the same, it’s also true that many are wondering how companies will be able to find and collect the vast array of data that the new ESG reporting entails, even more so in such a demanding timetable. But for every new challenge, new solutions emerge and even SMEs will have at their disposal uncomplicated ways to start the ESG data journey.
15h30 | Crossfire arena: Is greenwashing about to end or climate litigation about to start?
Panel
Pedro Norton de Matos | Greenfest
vs.
Luis Rochartre | Insure Hub
Moderator: Sara do Ó | CEO Ó Capital
A “duel” will take place between two sustainability experts who will defend opposing positions and argue in favour of each other’s thesis, in a good-natured but sharp way that causes both hope and disquiet. Mediation will ensure that emotions do not escalate, but the final decision on which prediction is more plausible – or more persuasive – will be up to the audience, who will then be in charge of this panel as the Congress approaches its final stretch.
 16h15 | Coffee & Network
16h45 | Does your company size matters?
Panel
Isabel Vaz | CEO Luz Saúde
Tayeb Mouhcine | South Europe & Turkey Cluster General Manager Bel Group
Carlos Medeiros Abreu | Executive Board Member SECIL
Teresa Gonçalves | CEO SATA Holding
Catarina Gomes | CEO J.Gomes Lda
Moderator: Manuel Gouveia Pereira | Of Counsel e Head of Environment, Climate and ESG at GPA Advogados
Towards a perfect closing, we have a panel in which leaders from various companies of different sizes, sectors and geographies debate the extent to which size matters when it comes to defining and implementing a sustainability strategy, identifying ESG risks and, above all, capturing the inherent opportunities. From a large healthcare company in the process of being listed, to a small textile company in the countryside, the common element is that sustainability is  ncreasingly a factor in competitiveness?
18h15 | Closing remarks & drawing for sustainabilitv vouchers awards
Because taking part in the Congress is enriching right up to the last moment, rather than a brief closing note, the More than Green Congress ends its 1st edition with the distribution of a series of high-value Sustainability vouchers", made available by GRACE Members and Partners in order to support the sustainability proficiency of those present. To stay until the last minute is to maximize the value of having participated!
